I tried my best!

Wow.

I am helping a client prepare for her next belt grading in karate. She is a relative newcomer to the sport and has watched her two young sons in class for a couple of years now. Finally, she joined herself and is now onto her second grading. She spoke to me, looking for help to "absolutely crush" the test! There are several young (guys) in her class that will be testing with her. Not wanting to feel like the old lady of the group (a ridiculous notion, by the way), she asked for assistance to prep for the conditioning portion of the grading. In her words "make me do whatever is necessary".

Well.

"Make me do whatever is necessary" to a trainer is like giving the keys to Toys R Us to a 5 year old. I put her through a workout that would have "absolutely crushed" the young guys in her class.... and she survived! 2 other trainers in the studio at the time kept looking at me funny (kinda like....did someone piss in your Corn Flakes today?). Anyway, I made her bear crawl around the studio with dumbells in her hands, made her do explosive squats, jump over cones, throw endless punches with weights, pullups from ropes, crawl backwards UNDER hurdles etc.... and on and on. ......and she survived! Asked for more even. What the_____?

I think she will be ready! :)

What the.......?

I am just getting ready for my morning mountain bike ride. I am trying to pile on some good mileage because the 50k Lake to Lake Race in June is fast approaching.

I just stuck my head outside and can't believe how cold it is. And grey! I can't believe that it is the May long weekend and I am going to be wearing a balaklava for my ride.

Enough already!

Little things

Sometimes the answer is so obvious that it seems ridiculous to even mention it! Three times this week, clients have asked me how they are supposed to eat all day if they are on the road! Remember the 3 P's.

Plan, Prepare and Pack.

Think about where you will be, plan what you could eat and then prepare it (the night before) and then pack it!

If you don't already have one, you MUST get a lunch bag that can keep foods cool. You can have food with you for every 3 hours that will keep you moving in the direction of your goals. If you are trying to eat supportively and have a real life, you should also get yourself a shaker bottle for mixing up meal replacement shakes. They are not to be used instead of food, but, rather as a supplement to your great supportive eating attempts.

Nobody said it would be easy, but, you either do the necessary things and succeed or don't...... and don't.

Another week....

Another week draws to a close! We like to write inspirational messages on our eraser board at the Studio. There was one that I really liked this week; "You can either wait for the storm to pass, or, learn to dance in the rain!"

I like that.

In other words, it's gonna keep on rainin' whether you like it or not. Might as well do something fun since you can't do anything about it.

Think about the things in your life that you have no control over. Weather, other people's attitudes, death, taxes blah, blah, blah.... Now think about the things you CAN control. Your lifestyle, your mood (believe it or not, you have a choice to be happy or not), what you do in a day, your approach to problems etc....

Take control over the things you can control, screw the rest and........start dancing in the rain.

Go Habs Go!
